There are rumors of a NEW Isetta coming out just like BMW did with the MINI, it is rumored to look like this, similar in appearance but no front door entry it looks like, in this version.

Read more about it at http://sustainabledesignupdate.com/?p=765

I found 4 Isetta's for sale on eBay, remember these are a collectible car now days and the prices reflect that, check out;

I had 3 Isettas when I was a junior in high school ... (it took that many to keep one running). They were a lot of fun, but had a typical over-engineered electrical system. The starter and generator (alternator) used a common field housing and a single armature (light weight) but the field housing had a tendency to short out, usually killing the starter. (Push or roll starting was really easy, it could be done in about 10 feet -- I had a LOT of experience with that.)

My brother-in-law had a 2-door "Isetta" (BMW 600) it had a door on the front and one on the side -- it seated four. The 2/3 passenger (3 would be very friendly folks) model had a half-motorcycle engine (1 cyl, 300 cc) and the two door model had the full BMW opposed cylinder 600 cc engine.

Fortunately, the car was easy to work on. I found that I could remove the battery (so it wouldn't spill), then roll the car onto its side (using a patio furniture cushion to protect the finish), then you had full access to the engine and under-side of the vehicle.

These days, such a vehicle would never pass the many required safety regulations (the "modern" version mentioned obviously has better safety features. Indeed, the original was actually not legal to use on the freeway in California due to a lack of horsepower -- it had a top speed of about 55-60 mph.

After struggling to keep the car running for a couple of years, I "upgraded" to a VW.... that served me well during my college years...
