Robs exhaust manifolds had leaking gaskets, which results in low turbo boost, and excess heat in the engine compartment.
sat. we started the removal of the manifolds,Rob<armed with his trusty brownie camera took lots of pics as glen did most of the work. the manifolds were warped, and the sealing surface was pitted. more later...

The next 10 pics in the exhaust manifold saga
#1 the blown gasket, its rusty and falling apart #2 "" '' #3 the head on the curb side,on this side theres a heat shield that has battery cables and other stuff, the shield is in the way,its bolted on with two bolts,Glen took the bolts out and pulled the shield over and tied it with a rope,no need to remove all those cables! #4,5,6,7 is rob trying to run his cameras battery down. #8 is robs finger, note how clean it is,you think he was helping? hes pointing at the soot on the head, where the gasket was leaking. #9new studs and nuts, the mainfold is held on with studs and nuts, most times the studs unscrew from the head,i always buy new ones from detroit diesel. #10 the studs screw into an open hole,un-screw the stud and coolant runs out,the studs must be sealed when screwed in.

10 more pics
#1 the new studs compared to the old. #2 thats my big hand screwing in the studs with vise grips #3 tapping the holes before screwing in the new studs #4 tap and stud #5 see that little thing thats sticking out? the manifold sits on the top of that "boss",it rests on it. it has to be on top of that boss,if the manifold overlaps that boss and you tighten up the nuts, you will break the manifold,i promise. the new one will cost you $400,don't screw up. #6 the rear boss, theres two on the block that the head sits on,remember #5 #7&8 the new gasket and the old. #9 gaskets on the studs #10 getting ready to install.

Last 4 exhaust manifold pics
i made sure the manifold was sitting on the bosses,no broken manifolds needed here. be very careful,i slide the manifold up and down as i slowly tighten the nuts, make sure the manifold is sitting on the bosses. Mike,i already did this to your coach! #4 we are looking into the radiator to see if its plugged up,its very clean.

Nice job guys. I would have been tempted to leave the gaskets off. Freshly resurfaced manifolds and some high temp RTV mated directly up to the heads???
