There was a movie on HBO this morning called "Taking Chance". It was based on a true story of a Marine Lt Col who volunteered for escort duty. He escorted PFC Chance Phelp's body from Dover AFB to his final resting place in Wyoming and detailed his experiences on this trip. PFC Phelps was killed in action in Iraq in 2004. I never knew about this aspect of the military and recommend seeing the movie if you get the opportunity. Very interesting, to say the least. It may provide some comfort at this time.

A friend of mine just sent me this and I thought it was so appropriate for the memory of this fallen boy. Spend a moment with this and you will realise what this young has meant to all of us and our freedom we enjoy. Again may his sole rest in peace with god almighty- Jon

While I don't often post here, I do have some experience with sort of thing from a previous assignment as a reserve center commanding officer. They are the folks who will actually do the local leg work. The escort will be designated by the family and the military WILL make it work. There are a few ins and outs, if I can be of any assistance please feel free to PM me.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your son.

Mark,
Though I know almost none of them I am always aware of them, our soldiers and their families, and I pray each day for Our Lord to embrace them.

Mark,
Words simply do no justice to the feelings you must be going through. I echo what many others have said about being blessed to know that your son was defending our freedom, even though he was many miles away. May God keep a warm watch over him, and may He bless you and yours.
