I want to install some 12 volt vent fans to circulate the interior air a bit (remember, we are down in Floriduh and HOT is the name of the game down here!). I would like to find something that is aesthetically at least halfway attractive, and have been looking for something like black Hella boat fans.
Alas, those are expensive and get lousy reviews on the boat mailing lists. Anyone have any ideas? Black, reliable, and permanently mounted are what I have in mind. Thanks!

Hi John,
I tried mounting some black fans along the ceiling in the dinette and bedroom, but never could get much air to move. I have had great results from a squirrel cage style floor fan that I found at Sam's Club. I'm fortunate to have an inverter to run the thing, but I usually place it up front on the floor and it will blow air all the way back to the bedroom along the floor. When not in use, it will easily fit in to the closet behind the bed. You could run this with a small inverter and it can pivot to shoot air anywhere that you need it. |

Shane,
I keep 2 of those Stanley squirrel cage fans on my Bird. One I use outside when sitting around the outside e-tainment, keeps the bugs from landing.... The other I use like you, blow air from front to back- werks grate! My inverter is not a TrueSine or ProSine but a modified sine Xantrex, the fan makes a bit of a hum while powered by the inverter. Great fans they are!

Jay- got the idea from you! They do work great and don't draw too much power when boondocking on the inverter. I saw a blue version (Lasko Model 4960) at Sam's Club today for around $55 in the home and garden aisle.

Thanks Gents, I'll take a look at those.
I did wind up ordering two boat interior ventilation fans from the local West Marine yesterday. I settled on a pair of Caframo "Bora" fans in black at $70 a pop. Will let you know how well they work out.

Found the Stanley 655702 versions at the local Walmart today for $39.64, in the area with the box fans.
