Default Yanmar maintenance

Hello all you Yanmar guys,

I have a Yanmar 4TN82E-RK in our 83 FC. I know its supposed to be a Perkins. Don't know why the original Perkins was switched out, but the original owner told me it was all new and only had a few hundred hours on it when we bought it.

I start the generator, load it up and run it for about 1 hour once a month and but have not used it too much otherwise. Perhaps a total of 50 hours since the last oil change but, that was over a year ago. The oil on the dip stick is right on the full mark and still looks clean. It all is running well.

Recently, John posted the full service manual and I was just looking at the Maintenance Schedule and if I am reading it right, it calls for oil changes every 150 hours and oil and filter change every 300 hours.

From what I can tell, the BB manual (looking at the one for an 86 FC thinking it had the Yanmar) calls for changes every 100 hours or 6 months. So, based on the 6 months criteria, I'm over due.

Questions:

What grade / kind of Oil should I use?

How much?

What filter should I use?

What about the air cleaner?

Thanks- NH Bill

Bill,

I have the same Yanmar engine. Is yours a 12.5K Kohler also? The spec # on the plate becomes very important when ordering any parts though Kohler.

I can not say for sure the parts numbers will be right for you. But I have

Oil Filter Kohler252834 napa 1334
Fule Filter Kohler 252765 Napa 3390
