Now for the rest of the story....Somewhere in our travels in the great white north my father found a deal on Canadian Whiskey that he could not pass up. So naturally being the bargain shopper that he was he took the opportunity to stock up on said adult beverage. We finally get out of the Ford garage in Regina, SK and start heading south to enter back into the states. I don't remember where we crossed back into the states, but I remember the US border guard comes to the door and goes to step in to do a quick interview. He promptly comes face to face with "Brutus" our Newfoundland dog, well ole "Brutus" was not real happy to see the unknown person in his territory and makes it clearly known. The Border guard promptly retreats to safer territory outside the Bird...My father is now at the door holding onto "Brutus" so he does not go out after the Border guard and talking to the Border guard, all goes well till said guard asks my Father if he made any purchases while in the Great White North. Father promptly answers him honestly and said yes he had made some purchases. He than proceeds to explain on how he got such a terrific deal on Canadian Whiskey and that he had bought several cases of said beverage (drinking back than was much more socially acceptable). The Border guard promptly informs my father that I believe the limit at that time was 2 bottles of whiskey could be brought back into the states...Well now Father is rather upset and see's many hours of pleasure with the Canadian whiskey going up in smoke. He inquires if there is anyway to buy a permit or such to bring the whiskey across with us. He is told that there is no such permit, we will not be allowed back into the states with the whiskey. So we are turned around at the US border and told not to return till we have removed the offending adult beverages. We cross back into the Great White North and go to the first town to ponder what are options are on this issue. Mother unit is having a stroke over this issue and is even unhappier with Fathers plan on dealing with the current situation (going to another border crossing and neglecting to mention said beverages). After much discussion between the parents and my mothers visions of what the local jails would look like if we are caught with the offending beverages it is decided that we would donate the offending beverage to the local Fire Dept...We roll up to the local volunteer Fire Dept and my Father goes in and discusses our plight with whoever was on duty in the station, believe it or not they were very willing to help us part with offending beverages. So we offload the beverages and proceed back to the border. We arrive at the border and it is a different guard that just comes to the window and asks a couple of routine questions (never one about purchases) and we are soon on our way. I don't believe that my Father ever forgave my Mother for that incident. I can remember years later he would bring it up and tell her we could have gotten away with it.
