Default A few more questions

Gents,
Please bear with me for a few more "rookie" questions:

1. How long does a typical 5 speed Allison tranny in a pusher last, mileage wise that is?
2. How many hours till a typical Kubota generator needs an overhaul?
3. The 1990 and up PT's I believe had front and rear caps made of fiberglass, but is the rest of the body steel?

Thanks to all who take the time write responses. I'm learning! - Tom

Tom,

There's only been 2 tranny's in recent times give any issues and I believe both were hard part failures, which you can't predict.

The Kubota's are typically good for a LONG time (often 50,000 hours is given), but since ours don't get routine usage, we often see problems cropping up. Lack of usage.

Yep, the rest of the body is steel.

I really can't answer 1 and 2, but here is some generally accepted information.

The Allison transmission is a tough unit, but if it is abused its life will be shortened. Abuse comes in the form of overheating and long periods of non-use. So how long it will last is not so much a matter of mileage as it is a mater of history. The same goes for the engine.

Generators need to be run. Once again, long periods of non-use are particularly bad for generators. A generator will last much longer in terms of hours if it is used regularly.

Some of the PTs have a Kohler/Yanmar generator. The engine is made by Yanmar and the generator is made by Kohler. Others have a Perkins Engine with a Kohler generator.

The entry way door is aluminum and I think the basement doors are too. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Generators should last a lifetime... My Perkins/Kohler has over 8000 hours on it and still going strong. I believe the injector pump and a few voltage regulators ($108.00) are the only major repairs. I will know when it quits when I stop hearing it rattle!
