My monitor was in my 94 and the board was attached to the monitor tube. It was difficult to manipulate around inside the space. I don't know your configuration but I know that all monitors just like all TV sets have trim pots to adjust horizonal, vertical and synic signals that drive the picture. Yours is some place close to the monitor tube. Good luck Larry

BTW,
If anyone wants the old monitor I took out you can have it for shipping costs. Im not sure anything was really wrong with it or the camera as I found the video wire was broken where it was soldered to the edge connector that plugs into the back of the monitor... Also have the camera if anyone is interested... /Joe

Hi Tracy,
My 84 ½ has a Hitachi color TV chassis mounted in the compartment above the drivers left shoulder. It feeds the 10 inch rear view monitor mounted in the upper forward panel. (This same monitor acts as a color TV when the ignition is off). I don't know when they quit doing it this way but I don't think my brother-in-law's 87 was setup like this. If your 85 has this single rear view monitor/color TV setup and you decide to replace just the camera I would recommend going with a color camera. I don’t know what kind of cameras Stephen has but if he has color with the image reversing feature you might want to go that way. I replaced my original Black and white RCA camera with a Sony color camera about 5 years ago and I had to rewire the yoke to reverse the picture because my new camera didn’t have a reversing feature. I really like having the rear view picture in color -it makes a big difference.

Now that color cameras and monitors are a lot cheaper has anyone replaced their black and white with color? About how much did it cost. Is there a "drop in" for the Sony I have (13 years old) and can you use the same wiring or do you have to run new?
Just some thoughts I was having. My B&W is OK, but color would be a olot clearer

We must have sent these at the same time. That was the first note about color cameras I saw. How do you "reverse" the yoke

Hi Lee and Jacque,
If your coach has a black and white monitor (which I suspect is the case) then a color camera won’t do you any good unless you also change to a color monitor. My 84 ½ came from the factory with a black and white camera that sent black and white video to a Color TV which also serves as the rear view monitor. Because the monitor/TV was already color all I had to add was a color camera to get color for my rear view. The reason I had to rewire the yoke was because my color camera didn’t have a reversing feature. This resulted in the rear view picture being backwards so I reversed the picture by swapping the two wires that feed the horizontal windings on the yoke. (The yoke is mounted on the neck of the picture tube). The down side to this is that the picture on the TV is backwards when watching TV. I have a wiring diagram (around here somewhere) that shows how to add a relay that will swap the yoke windings back and forth between TV and rear view mode but it didn’t seem worth the effort since it’s just a 10” screen that we never use for TV anyway. Having an overhead color rear view monitor is one of the features on my 84 ½ (see attachment) that I wish I had on my 91. I don't like looking down at the one in the 91. I plan to change the 91 to a color system later on (maybe even overhead) so I’ll be watching this thread to see what advice you get. Good Luck,

I found and scanned the schematic that I got from Bennie Collier at Wanderlodge. It shows how to add a relay circuit that will swap the yoke windings back and forth between TV and rear view mode for anyone who adds a non-reversing camera to a coach that has the Color TV/rear view monitor like my 84 1/2 has. See attached PDF file.
Caution: Where the schematic says RED and BLUE "From TV Chassis" and RED and BLUE "To TV CRT" - On my coach these wires were NOT the RED and BLUE wires in the wiring harness. The only place they were actually RED and BLUE was on the Yoke itself. You should trace the wires from your Yoke to the wiring harness before you assume that these are the correct color wires to swap on your coach.
