I am hoping they can sneak it in...............
Hi Peter and Donna. How are the 'kids'? Just a thought, but if you do pull the rad you might want to have the tranny cooler chemically cleaned. I have heard that it can be risky to try physically cleaning the tranny cooler. After cleaning tranny cooler have them test for flow rate. I'm pulling my rad this coming winter and will also do the tranny cooler. Probably preaching to the choir here but don't forget to use basic clean water and NOT distilled water in the coolant mix.

Randy, thanks for the background data on the 99, it helps tremendously, Rob, thanks for the advice, wrote it down and logged it for when its time....very good points...... update, I looked at "the job", the thing that bothers me most about doing it myself is:
1) if you take the bolts out of the fan 1 by 1, it there enough clearance between the radiator and fan to remove the bolts given their length then enough clearance to get that fan around the "motor" pulley its bolted to ,the fan shroud and radiator???

2) the hoses to the valve bodies do not look to bad, you will need to mark them to avoid messing that up looks like 2 large per side and 2 small to the valve body

3) looks like you could "sneak the motor and mounting plates out the top or bottom" provided you can solve #1> I would need to measure the plates and clearance first.

4) does that fan "pulley/ mount" need to be "pressed onto the motor" or does it come with the new one? will find out when I get it from BB. If you need to remove and press, then you need a GOOD Shop to do this so they do not screw up the new motor shaft and seal.

All that leads me to let someone else do it.

I spoke with Earl this am, he has stock of the motor and it comes with the valve bodies so I am going to have Earl ship me the parts to the new campground when I get him a UPS address...Earl and Jessie at BB are the THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!

I am moving campgrounds tomorrow so I will get an idea how bad the leak really is so from there 2 choices:

1) talk with the heavy line truck shop in Canton and see if they can / will "sneak it in" at a reasonable cost....if they agree, then do it here and worry about the radiator on my original plan date of 24 months from now. This shop says its the largest in the area so if so, then they must have worked on OTR buses and dealt with this issue before......... we'll see!!!!!

2) If the above it not an option AND the leak isn't too bad, then go home and have my home shop do it all

thanks to everyone for all the help!!!!! Good info in this thread and now we have one for the future pt's. Judging from how many people have weighed in on having this issue ... sounds like just another maintenance item you need to watch. The thing about this is on an s60 the "breather is right where this fan would start to "weep" so unless you pay really close attention, you can't tell if the "blow by" is the breather or when the fan starts to "weep".......but you find out when it "leaks"!!!! I am going to get hose and move the breather to the back of the bus bumper away from where it ends now, this way "weep" will be more detectable in the future, thanks again!

PS although older PT's use the "3 filters" in the can and an external "parker" filter for the system per the manual, the 95 s60's do not have the Parker, only the can...... no wonder...... I spent an hour tracing the lines and could not find it!

Wanted to thank everyone who helped me with this issue and provided insight / suggestions and close up the thread. When I drove it, it appears the "leak" is little more than a "weep", meaning under pressure, it is fine, when it sits in the campground for a month or so (we are part / full time during hurricane season) it appears to leak about an ounce or so every 3 weeks. Spoke with Earl when I posted this and they had plenty of new motors with valve bodies in stock so he shipped me one with 3 filters so I would have the parts on hand just in case. Have a couple of gallons of aw32 on hand for overkill .....Given it appears to be fine, I decided to stop by the factory on my way home in October(if Ike leaves a home) and have it installed....1 day or less labor, and appointment is made with Kenny...wanted to help support the factory anyway and we always stop by the nest on or way out or back so win-win! FYI the 95 engines mounts higher than the 99's Randy described that he and Woody did. Somewhere around 97-99 they went to that walk in closet and mounted the engine lower, I do not have a walk in closet so the labor is less and you can actually sneak the motor out the top while the mounts holds it, the mount splits in "2" so I am all set thanks again to all the help and data...the forum is invaluable when you get data and can then "call the ball" based on everyone's input / suggestions! FYI since 3 weeks ago, Earl decided to stop working 2 days a week and fully retire so Glenn is now "da man".........good luck to him and congrats to Earl as he enjoys his retirement!!!!! Lucky dog!!!

Hi Pete,

Looks like I'm way late to this thread. My wife, 2 year old and I are now on our way home to NC from Ca. Sounds like your well on your way to a fix for your problem. I keep my bus in Cornelius NC, which is 20 miles north of Charlotte. For service I recommend:

Burke Christian Tours
Denver, NC
828-234-0803

Denver is about 1.5 hrs east of Asheville.

Sorry for the late reply, glad things are working out.
