When I got my 82 35fc the step was ripped off and in a bag in the shower. I was able to get the retracter assembly off the bird, I think a good weld shop will be able to straighten it out and do a little welding.
The problem is I think there are some pieces missing here the step attaches to the retracter. I was wondering if any one has a picture of the step assembly or if some know where I can get a cut sheet showing how the step is put together. The next trick will be figure out why the step didn't retrack. Thanks Dale |

making the step work is not rocket science.
most times its a simple door switch. unless, some "expert" has been working on it,adding switchs and cutting wires! we can help get it to work, you get it welded back together!

I tore the step on my previous 1982 FC35 apart since it was bent. Previous owner told me he left it out and hit a curb with it.
I sandblasted it, straightened the 4 steel straps that connect the step to the frame, painted everything, installed new rubber on the step surface and reinstalled it. Whonked it against the building door when I backed out of the garage with it and forgot to retract the step. As Randy said its easy to repair, its a rather crude rube goldberg affair but it works fine and is rugged. Let all of the air out and take the wiring loose where ever it is tie wrapped to the steel straps, remove the top bolts and remove the step. Once you see how simple it is you will have no problem fixing it. And then after you whonk it and bend it yourself you can advise someone else how to repair it.
