Default Swing the radiator (90 SP)

I wanted to share my success...this was not so tough.

Needed to tighten the belts...and learned I had to "swing" the radiator. Was wary of this (all my experience is working on cars and light trucks...this is no light truck). But it turned out fine

I posted a few pics (did not take enough...sorry). You can see them here

The process is not complex. First step is is open the hatch and remove the gas struts (the gas struts will not allow you to raise the hatch enough to swing the radiator). MAKE SURE you have a way to ensure the hatch does not swing down on you when working. I used 2x4's under the hatch and I tied off the hatch crossbar to the ladder for safety)

Next step is remove (or "lower" the bumper). We took it off...it was not difficult.

Next step was to loosen the bolts on the left side of the radiator.

Next step is to remove the top coolant hose and the wire that attaches to the radiator

Now...you can swing.

Putting it back was not tough...reverse of the above.

What I learned:

I have ordered longer gas struts...hopefully, when installed, I can perform this without removing the struts (as there is a risk involved in my opinion)

Lost a good bit of coolant...not sure how to get around that...unless, perhaps, I were to install a longer hose up top. Anyone done that?

Anyways, thanks for the website...you gave me the courage to attempt this...and it went quite well.

Way to go! You were right on with your assessment. You need a longer radiator hose - no reason to have to disconnect when you swing the rad. Also, I'd most certainly look to rectify the strut issue - mine clear with no problem. As cumbersome as the swing process is on an SP, you certainly don't want it any harder!

Phil, Do you know the previous owner of your coach? He owns a campground by the same name in Alabama. I talked to him when the coach was at Lazydays, he gave me a lot of insight on that coach. He had been a bird owner for years but was getting older and wanted something smaller & newer.
