Default Trying to bring back another Horn.....

So I have started researching and fixing a horn module for my buddies 84 PT40 "Big Deal". I have removed the horn module and have taken it apart to identify the components.
I have refered to this thread to help me in troubleshooting:
http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.co...ad.php?t=21378
Thanks Chap for the great write up and pictures.

I am waiting on new amplifiers for the board and I am going to try to replace those first to see if I can get it working. I also ordered new capictors 10uf and 470uf just in case I need to replace those.

Here is a picture of the board that I am working on with parts I have ordered identified:

So I ordered the capacitors from amazon, just did a search for the specs.

The amplifiers (National Semiconductor LM383AT) I found from a company called Freelance Electronics, here is there website: https://rcfreelance.com/
I believe the originals were made possibly by Texas Instruments.
I ordered 5 of them because that is what they showed in stock @ $2.50 a piece.

So once I get the amplifiers in and soldered on the board I will be able to test again and see if I need to replace any of the capacitors. Lets hope for the best.
My buddy was really bummed when his horn did not work, so this has been one of his items that he really wanted to get working. I hope that I can accomplish that for him since he has provided so many good things for my bird.

X2 Chap They can be as social as they want on FB but they can't fix s**t!! We can be social and fix stuff too. It doesn't get any better than that.

This must be Bruce's coach, I like the name "Big Deal"
and I know that horn is high on his priority list!

My wife and I, made it a tradition to play "on the road again"
as we are departing the campgrounds
and I like to play "dixie"
for the construction workers and rural folks in the South,
that one never fails to get a friendly wave!

But like Randy said in the linked post,
"I can change the batteries in a flash light"

What you're doing is a little "over my head"
unless there's a U-tube video showing me how to do it.

Now, after you get it working,
maybe you can figure out how to attach a USB port,
so we can play a memory stick full of "tunes"
like "bad to the bone"

That would be "the" way to make an entrance!

Just for reference, I'll throw in a reminder that the speakers are often the only problem.

John is right. In both my BB's, it was a failed speaker.

Can I hijack this thread for another horn problem? Mine plays immediately upon turning it on. I can disconnect the "play" switch entirely and it still play as soon as the power switch is turned on. All the songs work fine. Any ideas?

In 1985, that 27128 was a high dollar device..due to supply shortages, those were the days)

I think that's normal Tom. My '82 did that and so does my '86. Plays whatever it is set on when the power switch is turned on, and after that, each time you press the play button.

Yes Hans, you are right on.... its Bruce's. He actually does not like the name Big Deal, but I think that I have convinced him he should not change it since it has history under that name. I have been talking with my younger brother to see if maybe we can figure out how the songs are stored etc. That will be for another day.
