Default DayNite Shades - Broken String

One DayNite shade string broke and we are trying to figure out how to remove the shade so it can be restrung, it's behind the couch on drivers side. The windows have fabric covered window sourrounds and the overhead cabinets above the couch. We can see the plate at the bottom that needs to be unscrewed but we cann't figure out how to access the top of the shade. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

You should be able to reach up and grab the top of the shade and rotate it down. Can't remember which way but it should just snap into a couple of clips. The strings that attach to the bottom may go through small holes and attach underneath the sill. I have one of mine off to restring and I cannot figure out how they did it. I have a finished oak wood casing and I am not going to tear it apart to find out.

Hi Fred.

Did you intend to provide a link to a site. I'm just about to get into the day/night shade project. Thanks!

i have re-strung most of my day/nite shades.
they are fastened at the top by a clip, the clip has a place for you finger on one side, push on that little tab and it will rotate out.
The string is an odd size,i could not find it anywhere except BB and i did get some from them.
then i called united shade and got a big roll of it.
the way i do the re-string is this.
open the shade up on a large table, find one end of the string, then using a lighter melt the end of the sting and weld the end of the new string to the old string, wet your fingers and smooth out the weld.
then gently pull the old string and feed the new string through the shade.
its not bad to do.
theres a few more tricks to it,you will have to pop out the little plastic end caps on the top and bottom and the middle divider, pull the string through one section at a time,it goes back and forth and takes alot of string.
who wants to do theirs first?
i'll send the roll of string to the first guy, then he can send it to the next and so on.
until we run out..
Randy

I need some string for two of mine. I also would like to know how they attached the bottom tension strings in the wood sill. Mine goes through a small hole on top and ends nowhere. No hole on the bottom side. Cannot figure it out. I may resort to a small screw to mount it on both sides.

Leroy.
on my 93 the only blind that had the string go through the woodframe was the front door, the rest have a metal strip that screws to the window sill.
send me your address and i;ll send you the string.
