Default Back up camera

My backup camera has a very distorted picture and very dark. I checked the camera from the rear and it does not have any obstructions. Sometimes it gets no picture at all. The TV part works fine. Any suggestions?

Default camera

Hi Stephen, do you think replacing the camera would fix my problem? Would we need to run a new wire to the cam or can I use the existing wires?
Thanks!!

I put in a camera and LCD monitor that I got on eBay, went in pretty easy and gives a reasonable picture.

The camera fit in the fiberglass bezel on the rear of the coach after I removed the _very_ cloudy plex and I siliconed it in.

BTW, I dont think its necessary to replace the wiring unless its broken...

YMMV...

I am not a TV tech but our coach backup monitor was dark and sometimes had a zagged picture. I pulled out the control board in the panel under the monitor and adjusted the three trim pots until the picture was very good. Since then it has worked great.
You might try adjusting the three trim pots on the monitor board before you trash the unit. It is worth a try.

Before changing out your camera, you should verify if the camera is the cause of the problem.

Take an old tube TV with a cmposite video input jack to the rear of your coach, and connect it directly to your camera. You'll need an adapter to connect the output from the camera to the TV. Radio shack will have it. Maybe costs about $4.00.

The image will be reversed, but you should be able to see a nice clean image.

If your image is still of poor quality, then it sounds like your camera is bad.

Thanks for the info guys! Larry, I have an 85 pt...I don't know if I have a control board under the monitor. I pulled out the monitor to make sure everything was connected but didnt actually pull the tv monitor out of the housing. Was your monitor in an older model? thanks!
