Tell Bill to stay at the NEST on Thursday and then come down to Archer on Friday, by the looks of the current forecast map the storm will track to the east. http://www.hwn.org/atlantic/nhcww1.html

If it continues in that path after Thursday, it will come right through here, I'm right where the "SC" is on the map, so I'm going out to test run the standby generator for the house.

I hope that it clears out of here for the weekend as I'm working as a Tech. inspector at a National SCCA race at Carolina Motorsports Park, located about 55 mile due north of here, this coming weekend.

What's the collective wisdom of the maximum safe windspeed for riding out a storm inside a 'bird, specifically our PT-40?

We are fueled and ready to go too. I told She Who Must Be Obeyed that we'd make a go/no go decision at 5PM Tuesday.

However, my gut feeling is that we won't get tremendous winds, "merely" tropical storm winds, and so we'll like go to a hurricane party at a friend's bar. We'll move the 'bird there because they have a large parking lot. Our workshop has some large trees that I have some concerns might come down and we don't need any of those on top of the 'bird.

[QUOTE=PirateJohn;6076]What's the collective wisdom of the maximum safe windspeed for riding out a storm inside a 'bird, specifically our PT-40?
================================
Well, we rode out a Class 3 hurricane in our 1993 WB when we were living in Lantana, FL. The storm was a Class 1 when it came ashore on the WEST coast of Florida. It grew STRONGER going eastward and when it hit us, it was a Class 3. Gusts of wind would shake the coach and we had rain coming in through the outside refrigerator door. Had a wet kitchen floor and used many towels to mop that up. We had a tree trunk fall on the goat rail on the left side of the coach and the branches were grazing the sidewall. When the eye of the storm went overhead, Jack climbed up on top of the coach and with his machete, chopped through that tree and pushed it down onto the ground. Then we had the same storm effects from the wind the other direction but at least no more trees came down.

Would I(Liz) voluntarily stay and go through another hurricane? NOPE.

Good luck and stay safe.

Jack and Liz

Thanks Liz! I rode out a direct hit of a Cat. 2 once in a house ... doubt that I'd do that again if I had a choice. Good to hear that a Wanderlodge is strong enough to handle a Cat. 3.

I sat through Hurricane David when my then wife and I were visiting her parents at in the Florida Keys, of course that was back in my drinking days and then me and my ex father-in-law were the resident experts at predicting the weather and hurricane paths, so we ignored the girls pleas to leave, but then when we decided to leave we couldn't get out because we waited too long and the causeway was flooded, so we had no choice but to stay, well lets put it this way, that remaining time spent on vacation was very chilly and I ain't talking about the weather either.

Then after I decided that I didn't think too well when I drank, I decided to ride out Hurricane Hugo sober here in South Carolina, it seems that my memory of David was not all that good and seeing 90 foot high pine trees laying over in the wind was an eye opener for me!! From now on if there is a serious Hurricane coming my way, I have decided that it is too easy to just crank up the old 'Bird and Get The **** Out Of Dodge!!!

I'll sit here during a tropical Storm, but no hurricanes for me anymore.

i remember when katrina was coming and Bob Loomis said he was going to jackson miss.
i told him he was still too close,to go to pine bluff ark.
he asked me why pine bluff,i replied "who ever heard of pine bluff getting a hurricane"

about 10 years ago a fellow bird owner was living in pensacola and a hurricane was heading his way,i called and invited him down,he said he was too busy to leave,he was moving his boats.
i asked him "out from under the trees"?
he replied,**** no,i'm putting them under the trees!
