Default Toad that is not a toad

I would like to find a stable (more than 2 wheels) gas powered vehicle that I could carry behind the BB but not tow; perhaps something that would ride on a platform mounted to the hitch. A golf cart type vehicle would be good, but I want it to be both gas and street legal. I do not need speed but I want the stability of more than a motorcycle or scooter as I want to carry my wife and dog; I don't contemplate going on interstates or freeways just secondary roads. Any suggestions on vehicles and the hitches/plateforms will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

The Can-Am Spyder Roadster http://www.gizmag.com/can-am-spyder-...r-review/9434/ would be interesting. Not sure about the dog though. It's only 700 lbs. so a hitch-mounted Blue Ox golf cart/motorcycle lift platform would probably work fine.

Other then a vintage microcar (Isetta, Mini, etc.) the SMART Fourtwo is probably the best option, but at 1,600 lbs. and 56" wide it's too heavy and wide to fit most golf cart platforms without modifications. But it would probably be worth the effort to make it work.

Look into buying a trike. That could hold the 3 of you.
We have seen lots of them in our trek across the country.

Thanks for all your suggestions; much appreciated. I've been looking to find a trike, but most of those I have seen are heavy Harley types; I want something lite. BTW I have ridden Harley's (a Road King fan), but I don't think with my wife holding on to the dog and riding on a wet road is what I am looking for. I like the GEM cars and they are street legal, but with dry camping I will not be able to charge the batteries very well. I will check out your suggestions and if you hear of anything else, please pass it on. Again thanks.

Somewhere I have a picture (and will look for it) of a lift Randy modified and put on the back of Ramblin Roe's, Arley Roe's BB. This thing could pick up a pickup. It's serious bad *** and would easily hoist a Smart Car. The lift was off the back of one of those delivery trucks that dropped off heavy loads on pallets (bottled water comes to mind) Randy will pop in here and fill in the blanks

The lift that Randy used on Arley's 'Bird started off as a TOMMY LIFT, similar to this one below.

http://www.newhavenbody.com/images/VencoLift.jpg

But before you even think about adding any kind of lift on the back of your 'Bird you need to find out the axle weight ratings on your 'Bird and then you need to properly weigh your 'Bird, so you will know how much weight you can add back there and you can find out how to do that by going to Wanderlodge Owners Group > Links, Files, Database and Downloads > Links > Tires and Wheels and Weighing Your 'Bird > HOW TO WEIGH YOUR BIRD.pdf

John is right.
we used a used lift that came off a welding supply truck,we cut it down (it was too wide, front to back) and did a few other mods.
it works well for Arleys bike.
i don't think i would haul a car on it!

You can check out the specifications for the Tommy Lift at http://www.tommygate.com/specs_fs_os.asp and here is their web site home page Welcome To Tommy Gate - America's First Name In Liftgates

I believe that 1600# is the heaviest rated lift that they manufacture.
