Default New Water Pumps & Holding Tanks Mods.

I started the re-build on the water pumps today. I’m happy one of the pumps failed. What a mess, I’ll post before and after shots when I get it finished. I have reduced the number on elbows by 80%. That should greatly increase the pumps efficiency.
I took the metal cover off the curb side tank bay just to make sure all the pushing and pulling on the pipes didn’t loosen anything. Well of course that just presented more opportunities to fix and upgrade.
The water filter was the first thing that jumped out at me, I will take it out and backwash the filter. I would like to replace it. I’m sure it’s original equipment = 13 + years old. The thing I don’t know anything about is the little pressure regulator or whatever it is, mounted to the top of the filter. Obviously it increases or decrease pressure but to what end? Also the water pipes are routed to and looped around it, so I’m guessing this filters water to a specific place. Does anyone know to where?
I would like to install a gray water tank over flow pipe. Last year I ran a load of laundry and went to breakfast with some friends, a short time latter a call on the cell and my neighbor was telling me that the coach was leaking. I ask from where and he responded with EVERYWHERE! Well anyway no permanent damage. I thought of dumping the Slendide washer/dryer, but I like it. So I never have that problem again a grey water tank over flow pipe is in the future. I’m sure someone will chime in with the perils of dumping greywater on the ground. That’s not my intention, my intention is to never fill the interior of my coach with gray water again.

I'll state upfront that these things are unique....each one custom....... there is no standard......now with that said, where you "drew the red line" for an overflow is a "black" tank on my 95, the grey is on the other side of the fresh water tank to the left. I've found with an empty grey tank, you can do about 3 loads of laundry and 2 showers before you need to dump and when the grey tank fills up.....overflow seeks the lowest escape level........on my coach, the shower drain with has a 3 inch lip around the pan!

Peter,
The shower will hold up to 12" TO 14" of water if your not home. I will leak but not as bad as you would think.
I just went out to the coach to double check and the front tank is my gray water.
The drain pipe for the washer is on the curb side above the rear tank and crosses over to the front tank and into the top of the tank, but there is a second drain pipe next to it descending to the top of the Black tank. I'll have to do some investigating. It would be easier to put a T in the pipe and plumb from there instead of trying to go through the top of tank.
I have re-plumbed the Air Purge system with 1/4 air lines and routed them through to the water pump bay, put a Schraeder valve on the filter side and closed the regulator in case the purge switch get turned on accidentally. I can purge it from a clean air source.
I've been told that if the check valve fails or leaks in the air purge system it will fill your air systems, brakes, air bags, air tanks etc. with water, not a good thing, so that potential problem is fixed.
Just about have the water pump bay finished. It is re-plumbed and the new accumulator tank is in and charged to 25 psi. Just have to put the pumps in and hook them up. I mounted them to a separate sheet of 3/4 plywood so the could be easily remove to be serviced. I used reinforced vinyl tubing 210 psi to hook the pumps up to the rest of the system.

Here are some photos of the mostly completed water bay up grade and repairs.
I just have to clean up and put it back together.
The first pic is of the completed installation of new pumps, accumulator tank and quick connect fittings. I put in a three way valve for the water dump with a port for fresh water on the curb side. I also purchased a really neat water heater that will attach to it if I need unlimited hot water. That is the last pic. The red arrow points to the relocated power switch for the electric grill. The plastic push switch that was located on the slide tray broke so I just fashioned a holder and a new switch.

The second pic is of the old pumps & plumbing.

The third pic is the Holding Tank Bay. The red circled areas are the new Gray water holding tank overflow. The top circle is the tie in to the drain pipe into the tanks and the bottom circle is the drain hose routed through the floor to outside the coach.

The red arrow is the re routing of the Air Purge System. I have heard of so folks having the misfortune to have the check valve fail and having the water system fill the air system with water the reverse effect of how this is supposed to work. Not a good thing. So I ran two lines into the pump bay,( fourth picture ). I capped the water line with a ¼ quick connect air line fitting with a Schreder valve on it. I can purge the water system with a clean air source if I ever need to do that. The air line isn’t plugged mostly because I only had one fitting. The air regulator is shut off and if it leaks you’ll be able to hear it.

The lines on the fresh water tank are the marks for water used by the Splendid 2000 Washer/Dryer. The first and largest usage was full cycle with pre-wash. The second from the top is the Permanent Press Cycle and the third line down is the Delicate Cycle. With a 120 gallon tank, the washer does use a lot of water three cycles together all used about 60 gallons. The most used cycle is regular wash. I don’t have it marked on the tank but it was about ½ the usage of the pre-wash & reg. wash combined. So you can see if your not paying attention and your holding tanks are ¾ full the washer will overflow the tank and the you have a real mess.

Never again the 6th photo is the Gray Water Tank completely full with the washer dumping water into the tank. As you can see the overflow is working very well..

Just to round off the holding tank upgrade I’ve order two of the
Lil' StankerTM MK-IVSTAINLESS STEEL Roof-Mounted Holding Tank Deodorizer Fan
http://www.lslproducts.com/MK-IVPage.html

By the way, I always need something like these fans for the coach. I found them last night on-line. Where??? Right here the OLD DATABASE.

Knowledge is POWER!
