Unhappy Ceiling fan above kitchen

Anyone know where the fuse is at on an '82 PT-40? I don't seem to have any power coming to the thing. The switch is corroded too, which makes me think that the switch shorted and blew the fuse.

I presume that the fan is a 12 volt fan. The wiring seems to be too small for house current.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

If you're talking about the "Kool-o-matic" fan (center of coach, usually near the galley), it's served by the thermostat and there are some relays and fuses that might be behind the front panel on the front of the coach or behind the "upper dash" above the windshield inside.

The possible problems are:
1. thermostat bad (mine looked bad with some corrosion on the connections -- but it tested OK.
2. The relays or fuses may be bad. The thermostat handles a very low amperage and the fan draws 4 amps or so. Therefore, relays are used to switch the power on to the fan.

These can be tested by removing the wires from the fan and checking to see if they're hot and experimenting with the thermostat. Crossing the brown and white wires behind the thermostat should turn on the fan circuit. (White and green should turn on the electric heater.)

If the circuit is good, then it might be that the fan motor has given up. (Mine recently did.) Granger has a replacement for about $23.65 plus shipping. Search for DC motor, 12v/ 1/35 HP, 2360 RPM, 3.8 A, TENV on Catalog page #30.

One my many surprises as I learned about my coach was to find the this ceiling fan is actually a 3 speed unit. There was no external knob coming through the grate and I just assumed it was single speed. One of my "honey-does" was to clean the inside of the unit. I now have a knob that allows me to run the fan from low to wow.

Default Ceiling fan

Just wanted y'all to know that I still haven't found the frickin' fuse. As I recall there are some fuses hidden under the dash and accessible by opening the panels in the front of the bus. The weather's been a bit chilly, and I'll get to it sooner or later

Be nice John!

I need to change that. I've been in McAllen/Mission, Texas for several months. Before that we were in New Orleans, then Austin, then Houston working with FEMA, then wandering down the Texas coastline.

It hasn't been super cold here, but just cold enough to make me want to run the heaters a bit during the day. When you've lived in Florida for over a decade the blood does indeed thin out a bit.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

That's good, Texas can get much colder than most people realize! It's funny how temperatures are all relative, isn't it? I came to OKC from Maryland and haven't really felt cold here in 14 yrs. It's that "dry cold" don't ya know!!!

I'm maybe 5 miles from the border and it hasn't been majorly cold, compared to the rest of the country (girlfriend was with family in Memphis and I kept hearing the nightly report of how cold it was there).

However, much of this part of the world is like Florida. They aren't prepared for the cold. I like to eat dinner in Reynosa (Mexico) and most of the cheap taco places are outdoors. Some friends and I went to a very nice brew pub and I swear they must not have had a heater in the building because it was very chilly in there.

But as far as not opening the front of the 'bird up to look for fuses ... well ... I guess that I'd actually have to switch from shorts to long pants. Until things warm up a bit (actually today is probably shorts weather although I don't have the A/C on yet.)

Be nice Randy, be nice!

Deb is back in Jacksonville and was telling me that it was pretty warm around there today.

It's a little chilly here in Texas, but I do see folks a few spots away who have their shorts on.

'sides Randy ... you have cuter legs than I have.
