Bluebird Fire

With permission from Bob and Dixie Gradowski I am sad to inform the membership that they have lost their Bluebird in a fire. I do not have any specific facts concerning cause but Bob and Dixie say it is totalled. No one was hurt in the fire and they were able to save their two pets and toad. Bob and Dixie are currently on the road heading home to NC and expect to arrive on Thursday. Their email address seems to be non-functional (bouncing) right now so anyone wishing to pass on their thoughts may add them to this thread.

Bob and Dixie we're pulling for you and are so glad you are safe.

This can be an excellent time to remind everybody to check the condition of the FIRE EXTINGUISHERS that they have on board their 'Birds. Here is an excerpt from the Sp36 Handbook Created by Jurgen Steinmetz for his SP36 Wanderlodge

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
The Fire Extinguishers are the Halon-type, which is very effective and leaves no residues. (Halon is harmful to the atmosphere and is discontinued as of 1994), and dry chemical Mariner 110, rated as A-B-C for fires. Both types can be used for identical purposes. Instructions on how to use one is on page 4 and on the Fire Bottle itself.

There are Four Fire Extinguishers located in the coach.
First one (Halon) for inside protection is located right behind the Co-pilots seat, secured to the base board by a quick release clamp.
Second unit (Dry Chemical) is located in the Right Hand Overhead
Compartment above the swivel Armchair. Best used for Kitchen/ Stove area.
Third unit (Halon) is located in the Curbside Front Electrical Compartment on the forward facing wall and is secured with a quick release clamp.
Fourth unit (Dry Chemical) is located in the Left Rear Engine Compartment

having the fire ex. all checked out is good,just don't get hurt trying to be a hero if you have a fire.
do what bob and dixie did,get the pets and get out!
every year we have someone die down here in fl. when their coach catchs on fire,and they go back inside to save something.
remember,if you have been driving for any time at all the engine area will be very hot,i doubt that the fire dept could put it out if it catchs fire.

As a volunteer fireman for 12 years in a district at the top of a mountain pass I can confirm Randy's comment. The likelihood of you putting out a coach fire on your own are slim...at best. In most cases by the time you notice the problem it is too late. The older coaches aren't as toxic as the newer models but they can still be deadly. Get while the getting is good... and live to tell about it.
