I removed the goat rail, sent it oit to be powder coated. I will do some paint repair on the round over, before putting the goat rail back on.

Which brings up my wife's question, why are they called goat rails? She didn't like my answer which was....In third world countries the racks on top of public buses are used to tie chicken coops, pig pens, and goats in order to keep them out of the inside where paying customers ride. But I just dreamed that up so she would quit asking. So far it has worked. But what is the real answer in case she asks again?

Good speculation (mostly humorous) about “goat rails” name in this 2012 thread. Picture in post 21 is my personal favorite for how it came about.

Started prepping the roof that will be painted. I have to sand all the clear coat that is pealing of the sections of the roof?

Randy Dupree 05-15-2019 09:55 PM

the way i see it if the clear is peeling it means its not sticking and it needs to be removed.
I use an air blower and a razor blade to get the loose stuff, then gently sand the rest.
The razor blade will get it all i bet.

I will give that a try.
