FC Screen Door Slider
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
I’m in the process of refurbishing my screen door and I’m hoping someone will be able to send me a picture of theirs, including an operational hook and pulley system, of which mine seems to be missing pieces. Also, does anyone know where I can find a replacement slide for the screen door? Mine is missing and it’s dimensions are different than the generic replacements available at Camping Word and similar stores. Thanks, |

Howdy Trent,
This is the first chance I’ve had to take some photos of my screen door setup I’m not sure mine is original because the previous owner said he “repaired” it. I think he used a screen door spring and I’m not sure the tension is correct for this setup. The spring system seems to work but I almost never use it. It appears to put quite a bit of tension on the door and makes me a little uncomfortable. I normally just loop the cable back down to the hook mounted on the wall. I reconnected it to normal so you could see how the cable is routed. The photo’s show The spring connected to wall mounted hook. A closeup of the double pulley going from vertical to horizontal cable routing. The cable connected to the hook on the screen door An overview of the entire cable route. |
The spring looks to be too much. On the ones I've had they weren't that large.

Finding the right spring along with the right cord and clamps is not a simple science. The spring has to have enough tension to pull the door closed, while retaining some tension to hold it in place while the door is closed. The spring also needs to allow the door to fully open before reaching the top pulley.
I applaud anyone that has made this work. It took me a while to get this just right, but I finally got it right. Thanks for my friend Bruce that directed me to a surplus store in North Dakota that had an assortment of fasteners, springs, etc, etc. Jay did a pretty good job but I used crimp clamps, rings and soft cord. I will take some pics and post of my setup. I bought extra springs and parts to make more of them if anyone would like - I can cut the spring to length, include the cord, rings and clamp all together so it's a drop in replacement. I am assuming that Blue Bird always mounted the hooks on the same place on the door frame and door. |

Here are the pics of the screen door spring setup. Very similar to what Jay did but with a soft cord, lighter spring and crimp connections.
I have enough parts to make 10 or so. 3 have been spoken for already, so 7 left. You can buy this stuff yourself and make it too, this just saves the buggering around needed to get it just right. $25 plus shipping |
Howdy Jeff,
Could I buy as set from you? If so, just let me know how to get payment to you. I can mail a check if that works. Maybe a private message with an address? Or PayPal? The wife really likes the spring setup but my configuration has made me nervous due to the spring strength. Your setup looks much better. Thank you for the reply and photos. Jay |
I think i used rubber bands for springs,or maybe small bungy cords.

We have the same screen door in our 89 SP. I found the spring in one of our compartments that had been disconnected years ago and some form of string that lasted about 2 openings before it snapped and send the spring flying. I replaced the cord with a length of paracord and it has been holding up well. Our spring is much lighter than the one pictured and seems to work as designed. A drop of oil on the cord pulley shafts helps too, ours were not turning under stress when I first assembled it. I would recommend a not fixing both ends of the cord until you are happy with the spring tension and door pull, ours took alittle adjusting to get it right.
