Broken but Here
1 Attachment(s)
It looks like we might be in the running for a “Broken but Here” award at WOG. :(
https://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.c...0&d=1570809985 Yesterday, on our way to Pine Mountain, a driver came down an entrance ramp and did a self inflicted pit maneuver using our coach. He clipped the right front corner of our coach near the entrance door, pivoted crossways against our front bumper, slid across the bumper and ended up sliding down the driver’s side all the way to the drive tires. From there, he spun across two lanes of traffic and into the guard rail cables in the center median. The good news is that he didn’t appear to be hurt and that somehow the cars that were running along beside me on my left, managed to miss him and each other. The other good news was that he admitted to the police that it was his fault - said he didn’t see us. |
We are happy everyone is safe, relieved but it still hurts an owner with a perfect Wanderlodge. See YA Soon
|
Happy everyone is ok .
|
John, sorry to hear about the 'ruffled feathers'. No injuries is a good thing.
|
Aren't you glad you called me for directions!
Anything else I can do to help..just ask!:D:D:D |
Glad all are OK. We may come in tomorrow, who else will already be there?
|
I'm so sorry John
|
Glad you all are alright. :)
Timothy |
Glad to hear you are okay :)
How can they not see you. These coaches are big. |
Glad no one hurt ,but I didn't see him so how big do you have to be before he might see you, when we ride motorcycle you have to drive like no body sees you.
|
Wow John! You may be the biggest draw at the WOG. God forbid you have to take this guy to court. I park the coach on the street somehow so the judge could see it. Case closed.
I hope you can get the coach fixed. These are some tough birds. I just saw a video of a brand new plastic coach ripping its side out when it pulled off from a gas pump. Ripped the rear axle out. Had to have bent the frame, they could not close the door anymore. https://youtu.be/kLNzhB6hPz4 I saw another video (retired. lazy) of a BB (I think) rolling off a wrecker wheel lift on a hill. I don't think it was on the WOG, another online forum. Owners dropped the camera. Sprinted after the coach. The tow driver almost went under the wheels when he went for the door. Owner gets in, tries to get in the seat at the very same time it hit a big curb. He went flying. He said he thought they hit a car. Wound up in a big field. They towed it off and it was fine but for a bent wheel. Another video out there, was for sure a BB. On its side. They righted it and it drove off. We will be in late Monday. |
Didn’t SEE you?????? Had to be on the phone, drunk, high, stupid! Thankful you kids are safe!!!!!
|
This is rough John. It can be fixed. There are a few parts around.
I think this was a case of being too big. |
Maybe we can help you at the WOG?
|
Sorry to hear this! Must be a younger distracted driver. Seems like other vehicles tend to give a wide berth. Hope your repair process goes easily and the other driver well insured. I remember there was an outfit on the west coast of Florida north of Tampa that did body work and were well regarded.
|
 Didn't see you? Guess you were running in Bluebird's legendary stealth mode.
You really gotta watch that, especially on the freeways. Maybe your cloaking switch broke? I know these darned ole bird are very hard to see. lol Another reason I was so adamant about changing all our lights to brighter LEDs. Glad no one was hurt. He, obviously doesn't need to be driving. |
Glad no one was hurt John. Hard not to see a big coach like our Birds.
Leaving Saturday morning I95 to I10 to I75 as the FL turnpike is horrible. |
Have to say John “It didn’t happen!” but I’m sure you must have pictures. Sorry about your luck if it really did happen.
|
I am here in 119
|
Wow, so sorry to hear you got tangled up with some lame brain that couldn't see you!:eek: Glad you guys are ok and that is all that is important, but I know how tough it will be to get it back the way you expect it to be. This clown's insurance company is not going to be happy when they find out how much it will cost:rolleyes:

Also very relieved it wasn't more serious. That is why I have dash cameras on my vehicles. |
Ouch!
I'm glad all of you are okay. |
We are glad you are ok and sorry for your bird
|
John, how is your neck and back? I know a good lawyer:D:rolleyes:
|
WHAT BUS !!!
Sometimes you can’t see the forest from the trees. Glad your okay. |

Thanks everyone!
We're very thankful that no one got killed or seriously injured! The coach is banged up a little but the damage doesn't seem too bad considering what it went through. Quote:
We actually ended up coming a slightly different way - your way would probably have worked out much better! :) Quote:
Yeah, I told my wife we should put a tarp around the coach and charge a dollar a look. :D Quote:
He didn't appear to be impaired at all, seemed like a nice guy that just made a mistake. Quote:
That may very well have been the case. Quote:
I tried the "without pictures it didn't happen" approach but that didn't seem to help.. :p Quote:
Like I told Nancy Brookshire, he seemed like a good guy who just made a mistake. Here are a few "free" pictures. :) When viewing the pictures, keep in mind that he came down an entrance ramp on our right side, so the initial impact was to the right side near the entrance door. From the pictures it doesn't look like it hit hard on that side but that first hit was quite a "bang"! We thought for sure that the right front corner would be all crumpled up! |
Tough old birds. I thought for sure it be way worse. Glad its' not so bad you can't travel. I have been watching an RV influencer on YouTube. He has Newell. His water tank leaked a few month (he said he didn't know) and the whole wooden bottom of that basement came out and the tank dropped (at low speed). He sent it in for repair. The techs cut the whole floor out. I comment one word, STEEL. He sent me a question mark and answered back Wanderlodge. He liked that. They put marine grade plywood in. Love our steel coaches.
|
Could have been worse John, glad no body got hurt...
|
Wow.
I wish we had a pic of the car that hit you. I would say you lucked out in a big way. |
After looking at pictures.....sturdy birdy!!!!
|
John and Nancy , sorry to hear of your mishap . Glad to hear no injuries. I know you will have your coach perfect in its appearence again.
Best wishes |
After looking at the pics I'm reminded of John Cameron Swayze:) "It takes a liking and keeps on ticking." Timex and and Bluebirds, both are pretty tough:D
|
Hi John,
Glad you are ok. Looking forward to meet you! |
Wow!
I really figured the bumpers would have taken more, but dang they are built solid. |
John so glad no one was hurt. Believe it or not we were within inches of telling the same story. We were coming through Birmingham when a guy tried to merge. I had an 18 wheeler on the other side of me so no choice but to hit the brakes and lay on the air horn. He actually stepped on it half on the shoulder and continued on like nothing happened. Thank God no one was right behind us. On a lighter not I showed your pictures to my wife and explained this is why we own a Blue Bird.
|
John, you were in when I went by last night but you were very lucky, damage almost imperceptible. Stop through Augusta on the way home and we'll get you sorted!
