I am currently running a straight-pipe on my '83 turbo 3208. It is relatively quiet until I mash it. Climbing up steep local town roads in residential neighborhoods is likely unsettling for the residents. The turbo seems to have a little muffling effect. On a Non-turbo I would think the noise level would be pretty high with nothing to restrict it.

so far, nothing has improved or hurt our mileage. Be it no muffler, harder tires, towing, not towing, it's always about the same. However, it sounds great with no muffler, our truck shop loves it.

Remove it kindly, test it in town and on the road...you can always reinstall it.
