Hello folks . . A while back a gentleman posted a 1981 BB either on here or another site and it was mentioned here. There were no photos or much info. I was able to get a couple of photos from the fellow but not much in the way of info other than it was a "recovered theft".
I recently received an email from him with the following info and photos if anyone is interested.
Just thought I'd pass it along.

Email: IF your interested ill sell it for 8500,,,1981 Bluebird wanderlodge ,,77k miles clean,,call nick crosby 541-579-7502 ncauto@comcast.net

Is this one of these situations where you should stay as far away as possible? Does anyone know anything about this one?

You are probably right Dan but just out of curiosity, why do you say that? Because it was a recovered theft, maybe. Again, I'm in the learning stages here and am just curious to why one would "Stay away".
Thanks
Jerry

It's condition is a big unknown. The current owner doesn't know a thing about it. The thieves could have run it into the ground although not an easy thing to do with these. It may seem cheap up front, but an engine replacement could cost $14K or trans $4K. I've seen a great 79 'bird sell on eBay for $14K with a new engine, trans, paint, new cat gen, nice updated interior.... and you know it was used and babied - ready to go. I missed it - only one bid. Not stored to rust or abused. This things are made to run.

No history and thieves could have run it into the ground, although not an easy thing to do. It may seem cheap but an engine could run $12K, trans $4K... I've seen great 'birds go for $14K on eBay with a recent engine, tires, radiator, trans, updated interior, new powertech genset... and you know what you're getting. There's one now for $15K.

I'd give $5500 just for the parts if I had an early 80's FC. With the closing of Ft Valley, some of our systems are going to be tough to find. I'd definitely not buy this one unless I had another 20K sitting at the ready for new powertrain, tires, suspension and that's just the beginning.

Shane

I tend to agree with you about parts. The big question is if I buy it for $5500will Kelly let me keep it at your place :D

sfedeli 03-16-2009 05:42 PM

Aww heck- isn't that why Randy bought the new place? So that we can store our old junk there!
