How much power will a CAT 3208 produce?

Bob made this comment in his post over on the SP36 engine change,3208 to 8.3 cummins thread, so I looked in my computer files and found an MPEG video of the "SILVER BULLET" that I believe I got from Mike Hohnstein a few years ago and I added it onto my www.youtube.com account.

The SILVER BULLET is owned by Rich & Jordan Lustik, Agco-Allis 6195 / Caterpillar 3208 Alcohol Super Stock, by converting the CAT to run on alcohol and replacing the injectors with spark plugs (to ignite the alcohol).normally the CAT 3208 produces 250 horsepower engine and it produces up to the limits of 3000HP, making it the worlds most powerful CAT 3208. http://www.cen-pe-co.com/Silver%20Bullet.htm

Bob found a site that claims it will produce 5,000HP ,but it definitely will make LOTS OF POWER!!! Check out this pull below........

This is great a cleaner alternative than veggie oil. All you need is a cornfield and a still. :cool:

Do you drink that stuff before or after the Racor?:rolleyes:

Have you ever found an interesting article on the internet, left it, and despite the "History" listings, could not find it again? It was the same "Silver Bullet" with 5000 HP instead of 3000 HP but found only an article referring to the 5000, no picture. Awe what the heck, just a couple thousand horsepower:eek:

I wondered how in the world a crank or the bearings would hold out??? Here's a snip from the article:

"At first, Lustik and his father couldn't keep main engine bearings in the tractor more more than four passes down the track. But after switching to Cen-Pe-Co, the Bullet was able to run over 80 passes without bearing problems. That's why the tractor has become the "poster puller" for Cen-Pe-Co"

It uses 26 gallons a minute. The Cen-Pe-Co must be some good stuff, even for a 3208 with considerably less horsepower?

Several years ago, I visited the Cat web site and there are 3208 marine engines rated at up to 500 HP. Obviously they have almost unlimited cooling, but it appears that the crank will take extra boost and torque.

I had a pair of 375 turbo charged aftercooled 3208's in a 50' semi displacement boat and it would do 16 knots at WOT. Sweet engines and I'm glad to have one again...

Here's the Cat 3208 that was used in the SILVER BULLET that would look real good in my FC...with a FEW MODIFICATIONS :eek: it isn't shown here but they use three turbos on it, here's a few more photos;

The SILVER BULLET RELOADED is powered by what originally was an air-cooled inline 6 Deutz engine also with three turbos.

375 hp is tops for the 3208 in highway use. In marine applications it is the most durable arrangement. The 425 marine is hard on the mains. I have 375 injector nozzles and a quick response turbo in my toter home. With propane injection, it really rolls. However it requires a large rad, larger than a FC will allow and it broke my precious 13 speed trans last year. Yes, I have a charge air cooler on it.

Not knowing much about diesel upgrades, I wondered what kind of HP gain is realized by cooling the charge air in a 250 hp 3208? Also, could it translate into better mileage by tuning the injection down to bring it back to 250 HP? The Allison is the main limiting factor here.

No, but I DID turn on the PROPANE injection to 'help' up the small grade.
