Exhaust insulation

Has anyone changed out there insulation inside the coach where the muffler goes up through the closet? The insulation is putting off some fumes.

I think your muffler has a hole in it and is torching the side of the muffler "chase".
Have you ever changed the muffler?
There has been several bedroom fires from bad mufflers.

Haven’t changed the muffler but will check that out. We get a toxic smell. The muffler looks fine but we know how that goes. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks Randy

Any thoughts and suggestions are great!

The mufflers have been known to get a hole in the side, and the hot gases act as a blow torch and cook the cabinets, until they burst into flame.
I would replace the muffler, just to be safe.
We put in a smaller diameter muffler so the "chase" has more breathing room.

Not a WB but you might read through THIS THREAD. My coach had a closet heat/interior smell issue when purchased 6 years ago. The fix is described on HERE (page 9 at post #86). You can watch the YT video HERE. A couple years later I also helped Kev do a muffler changeout on his WB that fixed his long suffered (with multiple repair shop attempts) interior exhaust smell issue.

Been running my straight pipe for years and have been very satisfied with it. Will eventually install the shortie Magnaflow straight thru that’s been sitting on my shelf almost as long. Whichever way you go, DO NOT ignore the heat/smell issues you describe!

I had the same thing happen to me; hole in the side of the muffler. Changed it out for a Magnaflow and have been very happy with it. Reported it here on WOG, check out several threads of others doing the same thing.

With some more space between the muffler and the walls ( I.e. smaller diameter muffler) and no leaks in the exhaust, you don’t need insulation. Insulation, especially adding more, just makes the situation worse. Many examples in WOG have proved it.
