Stove top upgrade...

2 Attachment(s)
My wife and I have never been very happy with the stove top burner rings in our Bird. They were small, not flat because of their split design and very tipsy especially if the coach was not level. Even though it took a while to find the right size replacement grill top, the effort was well worth the time spent. We now have a full size flat surface in coated cast iron. The new grill top is large, safe and much more user friendly. We can put any size pot or pan on the stove top and not worry about tipping or sliding.
The total investment was about two hours of pharting around and a cash expense of $84.34 for 3 grids delivered. (only need 2 grids but this set came as 3)
Hope this helps some of you!

I like your modification. Wonder if this could work on a two burner setup?

Stove Top

I like your upgrade for the grills. I believe I have the same magic chef. Did you have to modify anything? I see you used spacers on the rear and clips with screws all around. Were they supplied with the grill?

The stock magic chef grills are really light metal and not designed that well. Nice Idea

Really nice modification. I'm going to have to go out and look at my 2 burner stovetop and see if I can do something similar!

Thanks for the nice comments. The 2 grids came with zero hardware. I machined 3, 1" tall round spacers for the rear supports. They are tapped for 10-32 stainless screws. I had to drill 7, 3/16" diameter clearance holes in the stainless sheet metal top. The retainer clips are made from aluminum window screen clips. They are malleable and worked very well i.e. no rattles. Yes, this application should work with a 2 burner top. I choose ceramic coated cast iron because it does not warp when heated. It really is a nice useable, flat cooking surface now. Momma's happy!

I believe I will be modifying the new bus with this set-up as well. Never got to use it in the old bus. :( Rehabbed the entire stove and oven.

We did exactly the same mod on our '85 PT and have been VERY happy. I even borrowed Ryan's fingertip drill bits to hone out the propane orifice on each burner control. We can boil water in a few minutes now.

is where the grates are located now (Jan. 1, 2018).
About the middle of the page. Two for $66.98 .
Looks neat.

I'm thinking about upgrading our LPG cooktop to one of these. We already use an induction cooktop (portable) and really don't use the LPG. But I would like to retain the LPG for boondocking. This would let me put both into the existing cooktop area and free up some cabinet space where our current induction cooktop hangs out.

True Induction Double Gas Burner and Induction Cooktop
Dimensions: 25" W x 17" L x 2.8" H (Opening 22x19.5)
I haven't pulled the current cooktop to see if the opening will work yet on a 94' PT.

There is also a induction with 1 gas burner that has different dimensions.
