Rear air bags cut by sway bar

Interesting thing I have not given thought to prior to experiencing it.

I have relitivly new air bags on the BMC I have now, maybe 2 years old. So when I was loosing air pressure while going through the city of Green Bay last week I did not suspect they were the problem.
In short the sway bar camed over "see images" and cut the air bags leaving us in need of service.
The only thing that comes to mind was I had the levelers up to high and paid no attention to what direction the sway bar was in when underway.

I never considered the leveling jacks could go too high or it was even possible for the sway bar to swing in the opposite direction intended.

I should also note there was no change in feel, or odd sounds when the sway bar is in the incorrect orientation.
Anyone else have the joy of experiencing something like this? If not, it's something to look at pre flight.

Anyone know a fix to eliminate this in the future?
I'm not quite ready to remove the sway bar, I think I need it.
Thanks.

Hi Jim, I may have had a similar situation several years ago if i hadn’t had bags replaced by Spartan. They had to fabricate some new pads for something back there, don’t remember exactly what, because of sway bar rub. Sway bar must have been added at BB factory? Maybe David H. will weigh in on this since Spartan just replaced his bags.

Rubbing Air Bag on BMC

jydog159 (James S.) had a post concerning this issue.

Everyone seems to have the problem after Spartin changed the bags:rolleyes:

Are they using a different bag than the original?? Otherwise everyone should have had the issue from day one. If a few folks still have originals they should check for the rubbing situation. Actually everyone should check.

I believe Lee Davis removed his sway bar and didn't notice any difference in the handling . If i remember correctly , ours had no sway bars and drove fine .

Spartan did just change our air bags, but our 1994 does not have a sway bar. From what I understand, it was added to 95-97 model years.

Dan Weaver (ac7880) initially reported that adding a rear sway bar to his 1994 BMC did NOT make much difference in handling:

When not driving our BMC, I think of ways to improve the handling. When I get behind the wheel, I forget about that notion. It drives fine the way it is.

Hi Jim,
The post I posted on the one Dick posted a link to, is where mine were rubbed through and started leaking on the way to WOG, went to Ed W to replace the bags and had Louis replace bags and remove sway bar and it is still off and do not miss it, and I won't put it back on...

Gardner, I think Spartan prevented mine from rubbing by modifying something back there concerning the sway bar.

Thank you all for your comments.

Tim R. If you would allow, Id like to take a look at what Spartan did for you some day.
