Shift Control

1 Attachment(s)
Last week starting on our trip I had a hard time getting the transmission control to respond. It was cold for our area and pushing on the pad to go to Drive did not actuate a shift. In order to get the transmission to shift I had to use a probe and really push down hard, it would then shift. Reverse and Neutral worked easier but Drive was very difficult. Since we are now back to our normal temps for Southern California it seems to work almost normal. Is there a fix for this or should I plan to replace the control pad?

I had that problem on my PT-40, except it was reverse that wouldn't work unless I really pushed it, then it quit working altogether for reverse.
Rather than replace the pad, I took it apart, found the layers of the membrane switch were coming apart. I put spacers between the bottom layer & the bottom of the enclosure, held in place with a drop of Gorilla Glue so when it was all put back together the spacers kept the bottom of the membrane switch up against the top. No more problems, was still fine when I sold the bus 2 1/2 years later.

Ted Keating i think could rebuild the touch pad.
Theres other places that do it too.
Mine is kinda hard to push too.

Shift Control

Thanks Woody, I took your recommendation and spoke to John at Transmission Instruments. He recommended an updated rebuild unit. Since I intend to keep our coach I feel the upgrade is a good idea. The rebuilt updated unit has the newer type switches for $475 plus a refundable $150 core charge. I ordered the unit today and will give a follow up report after the installation.

I'll also get it added to the Service Centers list/map asap.

Shift Control

Received the rebuild/updated shift control from Transmission Instruments and installed it today. Looks new and works well. The selector switches have a nice positive click instead of the mushy sometimes actuation of the old unit.
