I was trying to find a way to tow both our 4Runner and our Mountain bikes. Our bus only have one receiver as does the 4Runner. I was afraid to put them on the back of the 4Runner because we would never see if anything happened to them way back there and if someone hit our toad, they would be the first to go. :eek: I was also concerned they would block most of the brake lights on the toad.

Enter the Almighty WOG...solution found! :D

A double hitch receiver. Now the bikes can be safely tucked behind the bus and not interfere with the toad or its brake lights. Thanks guys!

I would opt for the back the toad, just in case you need to make a really sharp turn. Back there it is less likely to get hit by the bus. I've hauled mine that way several thousand miles and have yet to lose one. I do check them at each stop and may have to re-position them on my rack once in a while.

I'm going to look for the lowest profile bike rack I can find so it doesn't stick out from the bus too far and if necessary, might put an extension on the Blue Ox to put the Runner farther back.
The problem with putting them on the back of the Runner is they will be covered cause he hates to leave his bikes outside like this, and I fear all that will cover my brake lights and brake light bar and make it hard to see our black toad in the dark as we are driving. I would just be happier if they were attached to the bus.

Once we get all the pieces together in the proverbial puzzle, we will do a test run and see if it will work.

Another solution is to mount a 2" sq receiver on the front of your coach and put the bikes there. It eliminates any interference with the turning issues and puts them in site for safety. ;)

Put the bikes on top of the Runner. They'll be out of the wind behind the coach, won't push the Runner further back, won't interfere with light visibility out the back, and won't be subject to damage by impact from the rear.

It can be a little interesting to lift them up onto the top and when driving the Runner by itself you will lose about 15% highway mileage (drag) and have worse handling (higher center of gravity).

I too bought this double receiver thing - never used it. Too many joints and pins made for a pretty sloppy connection. With an FC you have the fuel filler on the back. Dealing with a bike rack during fueling isn't fun. We put our bikes on the back of the toad. Brake lights are magnetic on top.

I tried the double receiver extension between the bus and the Jeep only used it once and now the bikes are on the back of the Jeep. Makes it harder to fuel get up on roof and on and on.
