Gatorgrl's Safe Place

Here's the new modification thread on our new to us bus.
It being the holidays and all not much has been done to it. I have been sleeping in it when the weather is cool and I sleep like a dead person. I jokingly refer to it as my safe space.....no drama , no pets, no noise....just solitude.

I have done a bit of shopping for it while I am stuck here at work.
Will be replacing the ventline Vanair fans with new ones.
Ordered more LED lights to replace all the storage bays and reading lights.
Will most likely replace the bathroom floor with more marble tile because I never got to appreciate the floor I put in the other bus. :(
Switched the shortened booths from our first bus with the longer booths from our newer bus, for more isle clearance. 12.5" just wasn't cutting it. We both kept hitting the bathroom door handle. Now we have an 18" clearance and it's awesome!
Will be making magnetic wheel covers to protect the tires from the Florida sun.
Also ordered several products from Rejex to take off the corrosion and oxidation before adding the sealant and rejuvenating the paint.
Tony says he will be changing the oil in it today.
He is also looking for a center bearing and longer drive shafts so he can pull the retarder to replace the bearings and we can still use the bus in the meantime. I told him I did NOT want this bus downed like the other one. Must stay in running condition!

Today I spent the morning blasting and polishing the bumper from Sandy Belle so we could put it on the new bus, since the chrome was in better condition.
Here's the finished product:

Well since I am still quite under the weather, I kept my project list small. Today I emptied out the gray bus and cleaned the new bus so I could move some stuff in. I also polished all of the bathroom chrome. Boy, they sure don't make chrome like they used to. That older stuff polishes out so nicely.

I also want to thank Sam and his wife for NOT being smokers. You guys kept an immaculate bus and I greatly appreciate it. It made my cleaning task quite simple. I spent over a week cleaning the other bus due to all the nicotine. The new bus was a breeze! :D

No, never had it posted or advertized for sale.

We are really glad it went to a great new home. The past year and a half we were so busy with redoing our house we neglected the to do list for the bus. Glad to see it's getting the attention it deserves, It was always good to us, never left us on the side of the road. Looks great with the new bumper and side light on the battery compartment door. Can't wait to see it again at a rally some day in the future.

Oh you definitely will! I have been sleeping in the bus basically since it came home. Its my new sanctuary.

Well we have plans to in-winterize it hopefully this weekend. I will be stuck at work though. :( We have an other driveshaft pulled and ready to be modified for the bus so we can remove the retarder and have the bearings replaced. Better to be safe than sorry. We are waiting for the other bus to go to its new home before we start that project since its sitting on grass now.
I also plan on working on cutting the paint while the temps are decent. Not sure what I'm going to use on it yet. May experiment with the back section first. I have all of the Rejex stuff to seal the paint once I get all of the oxidation off it first. That metal flake is gonna gleam when I'm done! :D

make sure you read up on what Mike H had to say about rebuilding the retarder.
this is not something anyone can do.

Thanks Randy. I see your left handed typing is improving. Good luck with your recovery. I have seen and greatly appreciate Mike's write up on the retarder. Valuable information no doubt.

Now I have another question. This coach has dual sofa's. One turns into a bed and the other does not. The one that is just a sofa has me curious. There are no doors or drawers under it. I know from our other bus that there is valuable real estate under that sofa that isn't being utilized at all and I am just wondering why?
