Toad tires shaved

The 13 CRV we tow had cupped the rear tires and rotating them after every trip was not solving the issue. Tires are 'Laredo' brand and have about 10k on them. Tow bar setup is level. Seems cupped tires are a gift that just keeps on giving !
So I started calling around to see who had a tire trueing machine.
Whats that ? Or never heard of that before was always the answer.
Until we got to Bay City, Mi. where a third generation tire shop said to bring it over. The owner shaved all four tires and its a totally different driving experience. Smooth, quiet and goes straight down the road.
The rear camber is not adjustable from the factory and ours was still in tolerance but at the high limit. Negative camber I think.
So later this week we are having an aftermarket upper link arm installed that is adjustable.
Time will tell if this solves our problem.

Great find! Getting hard to find a real mechanic anymore. What I notice is this:
That machine looks like it's been around a while as well as the operator. I'll bet when he quits that machine gets scrapped.

Cupping front tires on a toad is pretty normal. The front end geometry is set up for the front wheels to tell the vehicle where to go. When it is being toad, the vehicle is telling the front wheels where to go and the tires suffer.

You can find some real automotive skill and knowhow in Michigan, but its getting harder. That machine has trued a bunch of tires, where's the CRT screen...how do you program it? ;)

Wow you don't see those much any more.

Do you have a business name, technician name, and approximate cost?

Thank you.

There is a fellow in Charlotte, NC that will do Bird tires. I had him do the rears on my SP. Got rid of a low speed vibration. Not sure if he is still in business. He had worked for a tire shop, retired and bought the machine. Last used him about 2 years ago, did the work in his driveway.

My experience has been, bad shocks can cause tire cupping. Check your shocks.
