The book says they were available with diff locks or no-spins. I wonder how rare/expensive those are? Would Blue Bird have optioned any that way? I think a diff lock would be nice to have.

Well Meritor has a PDF that shows the approved oils for their axles. Pretty much any gear lube of any kind is approved, synthetic or otherwise.
