On my 82, the turn signal flashers / relays (and presumably the fuses) are in the overhead space above the windshield, on the driver's side, behind the stereo speaker. Hope that helps!

I think they are reasonably simple to re-cover with new vinyl. Remove them from the hinges, remove trim, pull vinyl off. And yes, the lengths of the doors do vary a bit.
