There shouldn't have been a relay from CGG in the generator. It would have come with an AVR board and a rectifier. The rectifier would have had 4 wires on it.

That Victron 48/12 takes 48v in and outputs 12v, not the other way around. You can use it to power 12v stuff. I have one I never installed, only tested. Nobody really makes a 12 -> 48 converter...
