Very interesting for 3208 Owners?

They really did fix it. Yellow paint with not so much as a drip after a few hundred miles out of the shop.

I finally got a couple minutes with the mechanic (not the shop owner) who did the work....

Quieting the doghouse

I have been staring at this box from Soundown for a while in my garage and since the bus came home from the big mechanic today I decided to get busy. Took the doghouse off and removed the old funky...

Now we're really back on the road!

This morning I took the cannon plug off the transmission and cleaned it with contact cleaner. Then I started the Cat and let it idle for a few minutes. Checking the transmission fluid, it was clearly...

Billed for 50 but he confided that this was less than actual. I think it was more like 80. Now the trans is shifting hard again though. A quick check under the keypad shows 13+ volts on the pink wire...

Back on the road

The engine looks clean and beautiful from the bottom... not a drop of oil to be seen. It was a really big job and just north of 5K all said and done. Still, it was a bargain for all that got repaired...

An update

The shop owner called with an update. He says they broke a couple seized steel-into-aluminum bolts and “welded them out.” That's the faster and better way than drilling them out, he tells me.
He...

Repairs are happening

Busy shop got the FC in on Monday. They determined that the source of the leak was the gasket between the block and bell housing. New gasket, rear main seal, anything else they see that can be...

Update with no real news

The highly recommended diesel mechanic got the bus on Wednesday. When I spoke to them on Thursday afternoon, they had run out of dye to try and trace the leak but had more on the way. When I talked...

Update

I shared Mike’s info with the shop and they were glad for the suggestions. They used dye to find the leak but it didn’t reveal precise source- it’s too high up and hidden behind things. They plan to...

3208 Oil Leaking Fast

Our 89 FC hasn't been on the road this year due to complicated schedules. Finally ready to take the kids on 2 trips - this week and next week - and we're stuck. There was a "small drip" oil leak last...

Are you saying this wire should simply be grounded?

Mystery wire on front of FC engine?

Wondering if this wire on the front of the engine is supposed to be attached to something. Radiator is off at the moment so it would be a good time to fix it!

RIP John

Only met him in person at Shipshewana in 2017 and plenty of times on the WOG.

The buses are great but the people are even better, and John was one of the best. This is a painful reminder of how...

Alternator failure?

We just completed a 2500-mile trip in the FC and about halfway through, I noticed that the battery voltage was low - down to around 12 - while driving. The dash gauge showed zero charging amps, and...

I admit stepping on the air horn at least 3 times without intent over the past year, but this time it was Mrs. G’s turn with a fumble. Standing outside in the campground around 11pm and all of a...

I have installed the new balancing spool. The problem of low hot pressure is at the sinks too when it is happening - but the shower is always the worst and most severely affected.
