At 28F it won't freeze inside with minimal heating. Just run the heaters enough to keep it 68 or whatever is comfy and it won't be a problem inside the bus.

You have to remove the whole furnace, enclosure and all. There are no screws in the rear holding it to the floor, it relies on the outside vent fixture to do that. There should be two screws down...
