Boise is at 2800 feet, and climbing a mountain with an NA 3208 will be tough. Gear down and go slow when climbing. Yup, you may need to stop to cool down as well. Black smoke means too much fuel and not enough air. That is to be expected with an NA at higher altitudes.

Its hard to back off the throttle when your climbing,but thats just what you have to do!
Gear down,pull your right foot out of the engine and enjoy the long slow ride to the top.
