Ok I have also had the joy,(hah), to remove the miserable vinyl mask. I found that a wagner wallpaper steamer worked best, for it also removed the adhesive glue without using harsh chemicals.
It will take time and you may have to schedule more than 1 session to do it. Mine was baked in the winter desert sun facing south and the dark green paint underneath made it so brittle that it came off only in small pieces. My son, a window tinter used a heat gun and it did not work as well as steam.
Good luck for those who are having this miserable issue.
