Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

So, I have the front end open and I'm ordering parts to replace the harmonic balancer. Does anyone have the crankshaft tool available or the part number for that it is?

Have the original sans spacer ring. (The “new” tool is this one modified/machined)

It worked great as is, for the new style seal I put on last year.

Can send it for lend. If wanted.

Just to verify, this tool does work on the new style seal without modification?

While reading through the 3208 service manual available in our files, I'm seeing that it mentions 7f2770 cement on the outer surface of the seal. Does the new seal eliminate needing this?

Yes. 7C6660 goes on dry, instructions in it’s box note that it’s a different “new style” seal

Chris, I made up a threaded rod/bearing/nut to pull the seal in place and install the harmonic damper last winter. Clearly the part -can- be installed by pulling it together with the crank bolt after driving the damper on with a dead blow hammer but..... let me know if you want to use it.
