Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Default valve adjustment

Need to do valve covers, (leaking badly) especially the left side. Also wanted to do a valve adjustment. Never did adjustment on this engine before.

I read that engine needs to be pinned, this shows #1 at TDC. Is the procedure similar to the injection pump? It shows remove the two bolts and small cover on front of engine... And use something to put in hole on top of injection pump. Where exactly is this hole?

Which valves are adjusted with #1 at TDC? And rest are done by rotation, correct?

Thanks,

Chris

A cat shop manual will be your friend.
when you pin the engine, you need to be careful and not rotate the engine with it pined.

This is a 250 turbo engine. I just read on a different post that this may or may not be a flat tappet motor..

thanks,

chris

Randy, thanks for your reply. I have a 3208 manual, but it's for a later model engine I think. Not sure if procedure is the same, and just seen from another post I may have a roller can motor.

thanks,

chris
