The only problem is that they are not light. I weighed in at 5800lbs

My last two toads were aluminum F150 and they were wonderful. I never did scale with my crewcab, but I figure it be around 4500lbs.

Back on topic, about a year ago we bought a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Quadra Drive II with the Mercedes OM642 Diesel. It was from another Wogger and set up with tow bar base plates, ready to tow. No it's not a Wrangler, but we like having a hard top and the storage space. Anyway it tows great with no issues.
That jeep does tow nicely!

I went with a dodge 2500 to tow(after building Bobbiemartin’s jeep and deciding to downsize my collection),

have a solid front bumper set to tow directly without a baseplate, have to keep the weight down below 10k, a bit of a challenge with the modified dodge. But the thing is a monster off road… and can pull the bus easily in a pinch!

If you wind up buying a Wrangler TJ ('97-'06) I have and am selling a like new Roadmaster baseplate with attachments. Priced at $225 which is half that of a new one. I removed it from my TJ toad after 1-year use. We sold the TJ and began using our Ram pick-up as the toad for the added space in the bed.

Link to baseplate.

Did you ever find a TOAD? I just listed mine...Jeep Liberty. It's all set up and ready to roll.

I tow a Jeep TJ.. The bus doesn't know it's back there! It also provides us with some off road activities of which we really enjoy!

As mentioned above, a baseplate on the Jeep will lower ground clearance. I have been Jeeping for 50 years and flat towing my Jeep for 20 years. I do a lot of hard trails and some rock crawling, so I want all the ground clearance I can get. For the last fifteen years I've used the very simple Rockhard tow brackets. They require drilling four 1/2" holes in the bumper and grade 8 bolts with large washers behind the bumper. If you are not off roading, these are not as attractive as a hidden base plate, but they work great for a modified trail Jeep.
