You are a machine. Glad you got that all done. Hopefully it’s time for some fun now.

  • Heater core
  • New batteries, one was bad, like really bad, other likely not far behind. Set for $200 at Costco, like for like, group 78 800 CCA
  • New glove box insert (hinge broke)
  • Turn signal switch
    • Added Rostra Cruise stalk and routed harness while I was in there
    • Lubed column bearing
  • Duct seals all around
  • Fixed broken mode door, vacuum hose deteriorated, one of those dual mode vacuum door things
  • Headlamp switch (dash dimmer coil broke)
  • Blower resistor, med-high was open circuit
  • Got cigarette lighter working, had to tighten housing to make ground
  • Got horn working (tough work, fuse blown)
  • CLEANED it, all the ducts were coated with massive layer of dust inside & out, like someone stuck a hand grenade in a bail of hay and let it off in there
    • Pulled every single duct and washed inside and out
    • Blows perfume from the vents now
      • (more like Pine-Sol)
  • Added mastic sound deadening to dash and floor pan. Diesel, what diesel? I don't hear anything.
  • Rehabbed radio, hit dials and push buttons with cleaner, sent knobs into ultrasonic cleaner, look brand new! Sounds great. Mono FM on a Delco set is amazing!
  • Added fuse to glow plug cheater switch
  • Coolant flush, used the DEAC that came from the bus. Blessed by Polaris labs as good stuff
  • Block heater - old one popped GFCI breaker. Shorted to itself. That was a real PITA
    • Had to sneak a flat blade on a socket in there to loosen it up, then a stubby to go the rest
    • Right between the block and motor mount
    • New one no poppy the GFCI, all good now
  • Road tested, all HVAC modes work as designed, no coolant flowing on the floor, need to charge A/C. Truck rides like a Caddy What a treat!
Well done!

Thanks guys! Blew a charge into it today, had about 50 PSI static, so went back from the stash of outlaw refrigerant. Got 43°F at the vents, cab gets refrigerated fast . Can't do this much work without breaking something. Killed the coolant temp gauge. Diagnosis was printed circuit. Tough one, ohmed out good, but under any load, it dropped out. Had to ground coolant sensor end, and use test light referenced to power to find that one. Dim bulb. Jumpered around it, working well again. Took it to fuel tonight, ran great! Almost wished it was hot, but we got a nice cool spring night. Heater works!!!

Nice work, Kris! Looking forward to seeing all the work on your bus and this new toad at WOG. You get a vanity plate for this one yet?

When you get caught up I have a few things you could do around here. The rear main on the 98 2dr comes to mind, I'll hold the light. Then there's that turbo charge project on the Fleetwood, come on over.

Default New headlight switch failed

Stay away from Wells C02222 headlight switch on Amazon, should have read the reviews. Headlights blinked out tonight, started cycling on/off like the breaker was tripping. No other issues. Same failure mode as others reported in the reviews. Replaced the old Delco unit because the dash dimmer function was failed. Got a bad egg, lucky I wasn't on the road. It was idling in my driveway while I was unloading parts for the bird. GM genuine part on the way to replace. Lesson learned .

Hey Kris,Woody and I had a headlight switch go bad late one night while on the road in a ford pickup,we took the AC duct hose off under the dash and aimed it at the switch and continued on,the cold air kept the switch from overheating and we got home.
