Default Replacing FC generator

Hi, I've got an 87FC35 with the original Kohler/Perkins 12.5kw genset and I've spent most of my past three trips on various repairs en-route, including trouble shooting the starter-starting-by-itself gremlins. I want the generator gone and replaced with something reliable.

From the forum it looks like the Powertech/Kubota is recommended. Any advice on what specific model will fit in an FC and where to get it installed?

Thanks,
Rob

I like our 8kw Onan and should it need replace, I would replace it with another Onan.

Since you have one of the first 87FC35s with the Kohler on a slide. If I had to replace the Kohler I would go with the Quiet Diesel Onan it should fit and with your slide it would be easier for servicing unlike the later 87-89FC with the fixed generator. The Onan and the Powertech both use the Kubota diesel engine. Good luck and keep us informed.

Default Generators

Rob:
If you are electrically inclined, the Kohler/Perkins generator is a great combo, and very reliable.
It is fairly easy to rebuild the control unit.
