Default Powder coating the bumpers

This should get people stirred up.
I got tired of having to rechrome the bumpers every 5 years at a cost of $1,800.
Removed them over a week ago, sent them to a sand blaster then on to a power coating place in Clearwater.
Had them epoxy the bumpers first,, then power coat them with a copper vain color then clear coat them.
We have a lot of brown on the bus so it came out looking good.
Total cost, front and rear...$275 for sandblasting and $375 for the power coating portion.
Let the screaming begin....

My front bumper needs rechroming, but if it only lasts 5 years it wouldn't be worth the cost. Does sand blasting remove chrome?

I got a powder coating kit and have been doing items like the Suburban heater vents, backup light trim, etc. I use a toaster oven to cure the parts, so I am limited in size. I really like the chrome bumpers, but the quality of the work (limited by the EPA) just doesn't cut it anymore.

yes but it is better to strip the bumper than blast it

there are excellent chrome shops out there the quality is limimted by the price of matierals not the epa
the base prices have more than doubled in the last three years and some shops are cheaping out on the quality and charging a large fee for substandard work
We work with a powder coat Shop in our neighbourhood and his work is second to none

Shane had his bumpers done, I don't know his expense but I know they were quality. John Heckman used the same shop for his motorcycle work and it looks great. I went with John to pick up the parts and I was impressed with the facility, while there I noticed that Jay Leno used them as well. It has to be a quality operation if Leno spends his money there, maybe John & Shane can add more on the company.

The company that I used is Librandi's Plating in Middletown, PA. Their phone number is (717) 944-9442. I paid around $750 for the three front bumper sections to get done last year. They are already showing signs of rust around the bolt holes and even some on the smooth face of the bumper. Really has me pissed. Plan on taking them back in a few weeks for a "talk" with the owner. They were highly recommended by local car restoration enthusiasts.

I have a friend that does chrome plating in Brainerd Minnesota area. I was thinking about doing both bumpers, but I sure like the thought of powder coating too because of its durability. That process has come along way, and there are so many color variations to choose from these days. I'm like Randy...I'd sure like to see a few pics of the finished bumpers
