Default alternator mod on LXI

As some of you know the DN50 300 amp alternator used on the series 60 powered coachs has become a little obsolete.
Parts are hard to find and the voltage regulators are hard to find too.
Some guys have changed the DN50 out to an Elreg air cooled alternator, which is about $1500,plus labor.

My DN50 is working perfectly,no oil leaks and makes great power, but i'm thinking long term its just not what i want on my coach.

The 300amp DN50 was used so that coach owners could run an AC unit off the inverters while driving, which does work somewhat, but we are not going to beat that horse on this thread!

My thoughts are we don't need 300amps,i think 200 amps is plenty.
So yesterday we took off my DN50 and removed that big bracket too.

I have a bracket that needed a few mods and we did the mods and the bracket and a core alternator are bolted up on my coach.
The correct alternator will arrive Monday, the core thats on the engine is smaller in size and amps, but the mounts are the same,so it made a good model.

A new Leece-Neville 200 amp alternator will be installed.

Benefits:
The 200amp Leece-Neville is available new at almost any truck repair shop.

The new starter is lighter,smaller,cheaper.

With the big DN50 removed you can access the air compressor and the fuel pump and the Cam position sensor easier.

The new alternator is air cooled,no pesky oil leaks.
The alternator has a built in regulator.
Its a 2 wire deal, one power wire and one ground, simple installation.

I will have a conversion kit available which will include a new alternator, brackets and a new belt, pricing has yet to be determined.

I do have at this time a rebuilt DN50,never used since rebuild for sale.$700
I also have a used DN50 (removed yesterday from my coach)no leaks and works perfectly for sale too. $600

I wanna see that installation! Sounds like the way to go. Mine has a leak starting on the shaft seal, and I'd really rather not cut that support member to change it without removing the alternator.

This is a really neat installation. Hardest part is removing the 300 amp alternator.

Perfect timing - or Not! I just shipped my DN50 off to have it gone thru expecting it back end of this week. I will be interested in the conversion due to the shortage of the 12 volt DN50 & limited shops that rebuild them

We would also like to know what the total rebuild cost winds up being.
