I've always said the best paint jobs are done in the dirt and my best work done in the dark.

Gary

Are they swapping in bigger engines in the chicken buses or tweaking injector pump & boost settings to get 300hp? I doubt anyone even thinks twice about exhausts smoke down there.

Default More HP

For the mos part, they install bigger engines and manual trannys.

But I have a 3208T I would dearly like to tweak some more HP, torque out of.

Do you have a recipe?

Regards,
GPSGary

Here are some cheap ways:

http://www.freewebs.com/nevrenufhp/

http://www.freewebs.com/nevrenufhp/

one of the 3208 pictures on the link-

The injector pumps on the manual Cummins 6 series(5.9 & 8.3) are fairly easy to hot rod. On my 5.9 it was limited to about 190hp by the governor springs. The problem is the Allison AT5xx transmission are not that stout and are rated ~240 max. I ended up with the Wanderlodge as kind of a fluke I could not find a forward control school bus with an allison MT64x transmission that I could afford with a cummins power plant in decent condition.

I have links to few more sites saved somewhere but I think they were for the Bosch rotary "VE" pump. You really need an accurate pyrometer in the exhaust manifold pre turbo so your don't cook your engine, if you tweak pump settings.

I understand the manual trans swap clutch- discs are cheap compared to a manual trans rebuild- particularly if you can just rivet new friction material to clutch disc.

I paid a diesel mechanic to tune mine up, took him less than an hour. Probably got about 20 hp boost- in my case pump was too worn to go much higher reliably. But with the 5XX trans we would have pushing things if we got more than another 25 anyway. Could definitely tell the difference climbing hills, power came on much sooner, but I don't think I picked up much top speed(2-3 mph?). It was well worth the $100, I paid him.

Steve

Default Pyrometer

While we are on the subject;

How hot is too hot? (recognizing that the less heat the better)

Exhaust pyrometer?
Transmission oil temp?
