Besides that, I learned something else I will probably never use.... I didn't know S traps were illegal! Is that National code or state code? There are a bunch of them still around here..

Illegal in new construction (Uniform Plumbing Code; National Plumbing Code; International Plumbing Code) because of the risk that when high volumes of water flow down the “S”, it can create a siphon that pulls the water out of the trap leaving the drain open to sewer gas. There are a lot of legacy “S” traps out there and since we aren’t experiencing mass extinction from sewer gas, there are doubters and nay sayers about the rule (imagine that). And, yes, you can still buy them in big box stores! Sorta like fireworks in Ohio, you can legally buy them, you just can’t legally use them.

You can use an “S” configuration so long as you have a lateral extension above the trap before you bend down (see image). Lateral extension acts as a siphon breaker.

So back to Marcia's issue. What Tom said is the easiest way to probably fix your issue. If you have never used the washer then that trap is dry and you need to fill it so you don't have the issue you are experiencing. If you are too inexperienced with your bus to even know if you can run it, try this first. My '93 had a washer sitting on a slide out in the cabinet. Below that slide out was a door that dropped down. Inside that drawer were two valves. One hot and the other cold water valves. Make sure they are open then start the wash cycle and run it. This will fill the trap and hopefully it will fix your issue. If not then come back with us and let us know and we will get it fixed somehow.

Thanks for explaining why they are illegal. I never would have guessed the answer but it makes sense after you added the details.
