Rebuild of Air System of Microphor LF-210 Air Toilet
So as most people may attest to, the air fittings in these coaches leave a fair amount to be desired, especially as they get older. The toilet in my 1999 LXI was beginning to leak air to the point where the compressor was running every half hour, if the compressor was left on. Here's what I did;
a) Replaced the Thomas air compressor with a ViAir 35030 12 volt air compressor. Be advised in doing this I had to replace the 15 amp fuse with a 20 amp fuse which is either located in the upper overhead above the driver or behind the power center doors in front of the passenger seat. The new compressor is a 20 amp draw, whereas the Thomas was a 10 amp draw. If you have to splice in new wire, use 12 gauge wire.
b) Purchased new One Touch PTC fittings from MSC Industrial Supply. These fittings consisted of six 1/4X1/16 NPT MALE ELB ONE TOUCH PTC FITTING, part# 30827661, four 1/4X1/8 NPT MALE CONN POLYBUTYLENE PTC FITTING, part# 51433753, one 1/8 NPTF FXF Needle Valve, part# 03005089, two 1/4" straight union PTC fittings, part# 51431393 and a couple of feet of 1/4 OD Synflex air brake tubing, part# 66629684.
c) I removed all of the old fittings that were replaceable with the new fittings, which centered around the plastic air distribution center in the back of the toilet and in doing so, the 2 air hose couplers needed to be used to extend the main black air line and the short black air line as had to cut the old black lines and they were too short after the cut. I replaced the shutoff needle valve, which is located at the top of the rear part of the toilet, as it was leaking. With the new fittings, all that you do is cut the old part of the hose off, and insert the hose into the fitting by just pushing in. No nuts to tighten and no flares to make in the hose.
d) With all of the new fittings on and hooked up, put the white plastic securing plate back on with the wing nuts and secure the black two valves back into the white plastic mount. Be careful to secure the white plastic piece and black plastic valves so the valves seat up with the front part of the areas they seat into.
With all of this done, the toilet holds water and the compressor runs very little over a 24 hour period. In short, the massive leaks are solved.
Be advised that the Red air hose and the White air hose are capped off going into the white plastic actuator rod. Not sure why this is, but may have something to do with the fact that this toilet is a commercial grade LF-210, which means the lever does not need to be held when flushing.
