Smile OEM PAINT M380

I’m getting ready to repaint the front of the coach to make it look like new since it gets pitting. The paint names and color codes are above the windshield in the driving area but the make of the paint is not listed. I’m wondering if anybody knows what kind of paint was used on the M380 at the factory. I think I saw somewhere that it was Dupont Imron but I’m not positive If anybody knows for sure I would love to find out. Onesie confirm I can get with my industrial paint supplier and have it cross-referenced and then custom matched and toned if necessary.

I thought my '00 was BASF and that is what I bought for my bus. However, I still had them do a photo scan or whatever the technical word is for it. The supplier took a half dozen pics of it and finally came up with the right colors and they hit it dead on. At least to my tired eyes

Thank you very much! I have been working out at this morning and I think I have everything dialed in with my paint vendor now. The critical color is the pepper red since I have that on my fuel filler door I’m going to send that up to my vendor with the driver and they will they will do a custom match in Axalta solvent based aviation grade. It’s an excellent paint and it’s what my painter likes to shoot . The jet black metallic accent stripe the front of the coach will be easy since I’ve got many options of flake sizes or pearlized.

Later model Bluebirds were painted with BASF and PPG base coat clear coat systems . If you expect a good color match with a single stage paint you will not be happy. Retired BASF, Axalta, PPG ,Distributor.

Lee is exactly right. Stick with BASF and have it scanned then have jobber to do sprayouts to dial it in.

Thank you for the information , we are not going to use single stage. We’re going to do solvent based base coat and clearcoat . My painter likes the Axalta aerospace formulation since he spends most of his time painting jets and helicopters. I’m going to have my favorite paint supplier for our business my do a color match and get it right on. I received a lot of input on this today and I appreciate all of it. My painter can shoot anything but since he likes the Axalta alta aerospace version that’s what I’m going to buy.

Andy, I had a local guy install PPF (paint protection film). These are really awesome now. I'd recommend since you have new paint.
maybe your technical team can do the install for you?

I would do the windows down. Your paint will look new for a very long time. That's about $1k, from my what I experienced.
He only did my lower valence and center panel on generator slide out, which was $600.
